Attempted AR color fill failed, need ideas.
I attempted to do some color fill work on the lower receiver of my Sig 516 using the nail polish method. everything went great till i tried to get the excess polish off. i must have left it dry to much or something because when i wiped it off it left some imbedded in the finish of the receiver. ive tried everything to get it off with no success. call me crazy but i couldnt sleep at night knowing i messed up my rifle. Its kinda like having a fancy car with a dent in the door. i found a good deal on a spikes loaded lower($175) so i bought that to settle my stomach some but it still bothers me. i need some ideas on refinishing the Sig lower or possibly getting the polish off?????????

Nail Polish Remover, as Lycanthrope suggested.
Goof Off
Lacquer Thinner
Acetone
Any of them should work, and none of them will affect the anodizing on your receiver.Last edited by unloved; March 12th, 2012 at 07:46 PM.

Acetone. Outside, with an old toothbrush and gloves.
Then spend the money on white paint stick.
Use it to fill the figures and stamps. If you want another color, use permanent sharpie on top of the white paint stick.

Nail polish remover, get it wet and cover it with something to keep it from evaporating right away, let it soften and then wipe it off, then just steal one of your kids crayons to re-color.
Everyone makes color fill way more difficult than it needs to be IMO.

+1 for brake cleaner
+1 for model paint
Did a S&W and a Spikes lower using model paint. Color inside the lines as best you can with model paint. Stretch a t shirt over your finger, wet it with oil and rub off the excess."No one knows what’s next, but everybody does it," George Carlin

PVC pipe cleaner for plumbing pipes (really cheap at Lowes/Home Depot) has not failed to get off *anything* I've ever tried it on (haven't tried it on nail polish though).
