Default 9mm suggestions for my wife

I recently picked up a Kimber Custom II as my first firearm and have been shooting it with my wife at a few local ranges and now it is time to pick a second gun -- for her. The recoil of a .45 is a bit much for her so I am leaning towards 9mm for this one. She is doing well with my Kimber, but would like something a little smaller (especially grip size). I have been thinking of the XDM 4.5 and the M&P but would love to hear some more suggestions to start looking at before we head to the shop to check them out and hopefully get to rent some to try first.

    Thanks

Along with XDm 4.5", the Glock 19, Smith M&P9C & or Ruger SRC9 or SR9 would be something to consider.

M&P9c with or without the manual safety and without the mag safety. I carry mine a lot and it has never left me down with any ammo I feed it. There's just so many competent smallish 9mm autos on the market, she may need some trigger time to get the "right one."

If she can weild a Kimber(steel, I presume). Then she can can shoot a steel framed 9mm.
My wife steals my CZ75 every week at the range. Going to buy her own for her birthday next week.

If the "push" of a. 45 is wearing on her, I am not sure the excessive snap of a Croatian sensation or a plastic fantastic is going to be better for her. Has she shot either yet?
If she can handle the weight of a 1911 and be comfortable with it, skip the meltable ones.

Awesome Pre B 75 can be had under $370. New around $500. Also there are good used BHP out there for $500 or less. Or how about a 1911 chambered in 9mm? Or a older S&W steel trade in. They are still out there around $300. All of the are in XD/M&P price range, new/used.

Bottom line. If she can handle steel, get her steel.

+1 on the CZ - or an EAA Witness

If you want to go the plastic route, check out the Sig SP2022. It's available in 9mm or 40SW. The grip is too small for my hand, but it may be perfect for the lady. They can be had for around $400 NIB.

I think a Glock 26 should fit the bill.

A Glock 19 is a fantastic pistol and given its size it might fit the bill nicely. Very reliable, cost effective, self defense and competition pistol. The 26 might be worth a look too.

Take her gun shopping and let her handle and hold. The right one will jump out at her. Get some possibles lined up then research them for reliability. Maybe hit a few indoor ranges with rentals rent some and she can shoot them. Most of the above suggestions are very fine firearms. But ergonomics for her and how comfortable it is for her to shoot is what matters. Good luck.

All the choices people have given you would fit the bill, the steel pistols with the added weight will soak up the recoil for her. All would get the job done though.Brian / EFR PS. let her pick it out, let her try alot out to make sure it fits her hand size and that she can reach the trigger properly

The Kimber Solo might fit your bill very well. 9mm in a small package, and it keeps you two in the same Kimber family.

BTW, my wife loves her Glock 19... she picked it herself.
