I expect the families will have 'failed to find' those, if they are smart.

I got 100 10-round clips (Stripper clips! Proper terminology!) of 62gr Lake City 5.56x45MM NATO stored in two tins (50 clips per tin, getting some three clip inserts to keep it even more organized) and 12 30-round windowed PMAGs loaded with the same stuff. And a 101st 10-round clip sitting on my desk because I can.

    Still want more 5.56.

But I'm working on my 45 ACP stockpile for my KRISS Vector and Glock 21 next (242 rounds of 230gr FMJ and 200 rounds of 185gr JHP), my 9MM stockpile for my Glock 17 (~200 rounds of 125gr 9MM NATO) and 7.62x39MM for my AK (240 rounds of 123gr JHP, looking to replace it with 124gr FMJ stuff).

Once I got 1,000 rounds of each of those calibers...I'll begin building to 2,000 rounds in each caliber.

Invest in precious metals. Lead, brass and copper. And occasionally a little bit of steel inside of them.

Invest in commodities! Canned food and ammo! Don't forget aluminum foil for hats! I have lots of ammo, but this 22 hoarding is just nuts!

Ok. I read over half of the posts and browsed the rest.

I thought I was in the normal camp, but I am starting to think I am a freak.

I like to have 5,000 rounds on hand and supplies to reload another 10,000.

Why? I shoot. I am at the range every week and shoot from 300-500 rounds per trip. So, 5,000 rounds could only last me 10 weeks and my reloading supplies add another 20 weeks. When I can't find my powder for six months or when primers jump 70%, I have time to wait to find what I need at a reasonable price.

I started out with smaller numbers, but reloading by the 1,000 costs 20% more than reloading by the 10,000.

Is that 5000 total or 5000 per firearm?

I have no idea how much ammo or reloading components I have, but I keep buying ammo cans.

5K per gun even if you have multiple guns in the same caliber!

I usually keep 1,000 rounds per caliber and enough reloading components for 2,500 rounds. However, over the past year I have come across some great deals on here and at the gun shows that have pushed me well above the normal counts. I usually don't find excepional deals at the gun shows but lately digging through the boxes of "junk" under some of the small displays has turned up great finds such as 2 rusty ammo cans of Yugo M67 7.62x39 for $60/500.

I suspect that this is like shopping cart sizes. What seemed normal years ago seems tiny today.
