Stress Drills
A point that I emphasize to everyone is that fine motor skills break down under stress and for that reason, familiarizing yourself with the weapon is tremendously important. You may not be able to duplicate life or death encounters at the range but you can have fun and get someone's heart rate up. Having said that, I took my mom out shooting with me this weekend so she could practice with her Sig, gave her some instruction and we ran a cover drill that I came up with. I set up a couple targets down range, unloaded my shotgun on one of them and I yelled to her that I'm out of ammo and to 'cover me!' and 'shoot him! kill him!' She didn't do very well the first time but the second and third time we did it, she did very well. I showed her a couple of different stances, taught her the high thumb hold so she has more control of the weapon, it was a very successful day.
Anyway, what are some other ideas for stress-inducing drills?
Here's one of our targets . . .
