    Default Renew carry/conceal license in Bucks County

    Anyone familiar with the process of renewing a gun permit license coming from Philadelphia..now living in Bucks county, of course. The license is about to expire in May 2012...can I renew now or do I have to wait until the expiration date? Can the renewal be done in Levittown or do I have to go to the Doylestown Court House? Thanks..

    The process to apply or renew is the same so I don't believe waiting on the expiration date is necessary. Last time around the paperwork had to go from Levittown to Doylestown and back, don't know if that's still the case. Supposedly you can walk out with it if you go to Doylestown which is what I'll be doing this time.

    Below is what I received in the mail a few weeks ago:

    The info on the DELCO Sheriff's site says you may renew up to 60 days before expiration, don't recall if that's law or not though.

    The statute really does not say when you may renew, just that at least 60 days prior to expiration, the sheriff (or PPD) must send you an application to renew.

    Some sheriffs take that to mean that you may only renew 60 days before expiration.

    From 18 Pa.C.S. § 6109: Licenses

    (f) Term of license.--
    <SNIP>
    (2) At least 60 days prior to the expiration of each license, the issuing sheriff shall send to the licensee an application for renewal of license. Failure to receive a renewal application shall not relieve a licensee from the responsibility to renew the license.

    For what it's worth, you can DEFINITELY walk out with it in Doylestown. I got mine two weeks ago and it took all of 10 minutes from the time I got to the counter until I had it in my hand, on the elevator and out the door. Save yourself some time and download the form off their website, and remember, CASH ONLY.

    I have to call the sheriff. The "proof of citizenship" part is complete BS, since one doesn't even have to be a US citizen to obtain LTCF.

    Yes you do! The State leaves the licensing to the County Sheriffs Office, in Bucks you are required to be a US Citizen and a legal resident of Bucks County.

    I came across this while searching for renewal ... if this has been answered good, if not - here is .02:

    You can be a non-US citizen (a legal permanent resident or LPR/Green Card holder) in Bucks county and still get one. In this case proof of having attended a hunter/trapper course + furnishing of the original GC is required.

    The proof of citizenship is only required if you are naturalized and not a born citizen - so that is not BS (I know that Florida actually specifically mentions providing proof/certificate or passport etc.) For citizens who could assuredly state that they were citizens by birth - no further proof/documentation in that regard is required.

    From what I hear the lady that takes care of renewals is out sick at Levittown. Go to Doylestown 15 min out the door with it in hand.
