Re: Opinions on informing police of gun in car?
The PROPER response is: Oh, snap! I forgot it- I left it at your mother's house, flatfoot.

Re: Opinions on informing police of gun in car?
JMO. You're being watched from the time the Leo starts the stop. I'm not reaching for anything. Both hand on the steering wheel until he/she approaches. When asked for dr license etc I'll inform the leo of location so he knows what i'm reaching for.
Most leo's I know say they become more cautious/tense when they see a driver reaching for something as they approach the car.

I'm pretty sure everything that can be said about this, has already been said, several times over.

Re: Opinions on informing police of gun in car?
The cop isn't in any danger of me shooting him/her so the cop has no reason to know if I have a gun. Don't answer questions, just stay silent in general. But if you're a gambling man you could always lie to the cop. Its technically not illegal but it will piss the cop off and he may end up calling you "junior"

Re: Opinions on informing police of gun in car?
cop: do you have any weapons?
me: what does that have to do with what I was stopped for?
The problem with informing is that there is a strong possibility that he will then want to 'secure' it under the guise of 'officer safety'. That now opens a whole can of worms.
If I'm told to step out and I'm OCing, I'd problem let him know that I'm licensed. At that point, there probably isn't much you can do except assert your rights and comply with his lawful demand. But I'm not going to disarm myself and I sure wouldn't do anything like open the trunk for him.Help us restore election integrity in PA. Join PA Voters United

Well here's something new on the subject. An Allegheny Police detective told me that in Allegheny Co. you must inform. I told him to get bent and that they can't supersede state law.
