If that is true, they are indeed lowering their standards of hiring. It would then reason they would also lower their standards of training to compensate for what would be the lower intelligent officer coming onto the force.

I'm well aware that a degree doesn't equal intelligence, but someone that can't earn a 2 year degree would probably be better off not being a LEO. Instead of having officers out there that have a firm understanding of the law and the constitution, we have officers that are following orders, and in many cases, making it up as the go along. I'm not saying this is true of all officers.
generally there is a minor hiring preference for people with at least 60 college credits. You don't get as many points for being educated as you do for roughing up Iraqi's however.

That's an EXCELLENT article. Does a much better job than the FBI article, although I'm pretty sure that a lot of the materials came out from the FBI article.

I'm sure a lot of it also came out of his experience as a police officer.

Biggest tip I can give is to make sure your shirt is down before you get out of your car, then use the reflection off your car to be sure you aren't exposed without having to physically check it with your hands.

^^Truth^^ being indirect is the best way to avoid detection if you feel the need to check your weapon.
will that extra 15% matter? not as much as being able to put one in their face. ~Edg

I didn't like the first article. As was stated before, it was very clinical and sounded as if he had read about it but never experienced it.

The article you posted was very good, however.

I'm supposed to be wearing Oakleys? I knew I missed something. Are the 5.11's optional? I can't believe how expensive this is becoming.

You don't have to, but the guys that are easiest to make all seem to have them. Cops are particularly bad at this too. I remember I was on the subway after the phillies won the world series and they were having the parade. They had undercover cops everywhere to monitor the crowded train cars. The one in my car had on 5.11 pants, black boots a crew cut, oakleys, a radio earbud and a baggy Phillies shirt with body armor printing through it. I don't think he was fooling anyone as there was several feet of space around him in an otherwise shoulder-to-shoulder train car.

    From the article:
They may or may not be wearing some sort of sporting goods or gun manufacturer logo.
That's some deep intel right there.
