    Default Delco permit times

I renewed my permit early last month as it expires on 08 MAR. I called today to see what was up. The girl tells me it will be 45 days and probably longer as they have been swamped with new aps. Forty five days puts me near the end of March. I don't want to carry with an expired permit and a receipt for the renewal. What's a guy to do???

PS I don't want to find myself needing a gun and not having one, either.

The bad news: The law requires that the sheriff issue (or deny for valid cause) within 45 days, but there's almost no way to enforce that at this time.
    18 Pa.C.S. § 6109: Licenses
    (g) Grant or denial of license.--Upon the receipt of an application for a license to carry a firearm, the sheriff shall, within 45 days, issue or refuse to issue a license on the basis of the investigation
The good news: You are exempt from licensing for a period of 6 months from the date of expiration of your old license, as long as you are eligible for renewal.
    18 Pa.C.S. § 6106: Firearms not to be carried without a license
    (b) Exceptions
    (12) A person who has a lawfully issued license to carry a firearm pursuant to section 6109 (relating to licenses) and that said license expired within six months prior to the date of arrest and that the individual is otherwise eligible for renewal of the license.
So (assuming you remain eligible for a LTCF) you may legally carry for up to 6 months after the date your old LTCF expires.

Didn't Delco county send you a renewal packet back about 3 to 4 months before your license lapsed? Why did you wait so long?

I always apply early in Delco, but with only one woman doing the work and her having like 6 weeks vacation a year, it's hard for them to keep current. Even though they should!

They seem to be all over the place with most I've seen on these boards taking 2-6 weeks. There is a post from 2008 taking 50 days though.

Mine took right around 30 days, and that was less than a year ago. I have a post in the Delco forum on it I believe.

Honestly? The best I have seen is 28 days. But I am happy to hear they are getting so many applications. I wonder if maybe we could have a Friends of NRA Dinner in Delco. It has been missing for to many years.

My new application took less than 2 weeks from submission to receiving the letter. That was June/July of last year.
