Public Forum on 'Crime' With Tom McMahon
Mayor Tom McMahon of Reading is planning to meet with Paul Helmke, the president of a national gun-ban group (the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence), as well as law enforcement officials and local residents, under the guise of addressing the issue of crime. The meeting will be held Tuesday, February 6, at 6:00 p.m., in the Schmidt Training & Technology Center at Reading Area Community College. Mayor McMahon is a member of the anti-gun group led by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Please remember to attend this meeting and make your voice heard! If you are unable to attend, please call (610) 655-6234 and let Mayor McMahon know that New York-style gun control does not fit in Reading, Pennsylvania.

Thanks for posting this.

“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, — go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!”
~Samuel Adams
"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it."

Re: Public Forum on 'Crime' With Tom McMahon
I'd like to go, but there is no way that I can make it from my office to Reading in time. If anyone does go please make sure to keep us in the loop about anything of any type of importance that happens. I realize that McMahon and importance may seem somewhat incongruous but...

Re: Public Forum on 'Crime' With Tom McMahon
By mid-afternoon today, I realized I wouldn't be able to make the proposed meeting. I called and was answered by a machine(and no directory options). I left a short message indicating my position and indicated that call-back would be desirable.
If anyone on this forum attended the meeting, please let us know what transpired.

You know, I was thinking about this, and really wish I could have made it over to support my brothers and sisters in arms. This really got to me. One of the greatest Heros in American history, boys grew up on his ledgend was from this area, orriginally, Daniel Boone, must REALY be proud of his boyhood home. If some one in Reading would be so kind to pass this along, I'd be greatful.

Re: Public Forum on 'Crime' With Tom McMahon
Someone posted up in the 'news' section that it was pretty much a gun-bashing session with no questions asked.
Makes me feel less bad about missing it.
The mayor will be getting a nice letter from me regarding the whole affair, however.
