Re: Savage model 111
So i didn't like the barrel nut on the Savage and couldn't look past it,so i got the Weatherby. I went with a 270 and some Leupold rings and bases, going shooting tomorrow, the trigger on this rifle smokes the Savage it probably breaks at 2.5lbs

Re: Savage model 111
Several years ago I bought a used Savage 111 with a wood stock...older model with no accutrigger, etc. Had a cheap 3-9 x 32 scope on it, but sighted it in and it would hammer tacks out to 200 yards. Didn't have the range to try longer shots. Anyway, have killed numerous deer with it. In fact, the only time I didn't hunt with it for deer was this year when I bought a better Nikon scope from a buddy and was using a Remington 770 in .243 (my daughter's ) while he changed the scope out and I could get out and sight the new scope in. OK rifle (took two deer with it), but I was happy to get my Savage back with the new scope on it. Not that the other one was not accurate. I just wasn't happy with the vision in low-light conditions. The Nikon solved that problem. I probably won't use anything else for whitetails.
