gew 88 mauser
i am looking for some input as to the collector value of a recent acquisition.
its a Gewehr 88 marked Danzig 1891. it has an s stamp above the Danzig and crown mark and what looks like some scrolled letters with crowns above them in a row along the right side of the receiver. it also has some lettering along the left side of the metal barrel band half way up the barrel.
the wood looks pretty good with no cracks or chips and what appears to be original finish . it has a bayo lug on the side of the forward barrel band and a cleaning rod.
from what i can tell it appears all numbers on bolt, barrel and reciever are matching,
the bluing is worn to an even ( for the most part) grey color and behind the rear sling attachment point is a K stamp.
the bore is in very good shape with deep rifling and a good muzzle.
i know its a bunch of stuff and there are many variables of these rifles. thats about all i know of them.
im having digi camera issues but am able to e mail or text picks i took with my i phone
thanks in advance folks!!

Re: gew 88 mauser
Kewl Ya gotta Gew! I was looking to snag one mself, but didn't want to take the chances shooting modern ammo, so I gave up and snagged a Yugo M48A instead.
Poke around at some of these places I found...

Re: gew 88 mauser
Sounds like a pretty typical Gew 88 rifle to me. I bought one myself last year for about $200.
Does your have a large S and small semicircular cutout on the front receiver ring? If so (plus charger guides and a metal cover over the bottom of the magazine) you have one of the ones converted to use standard .323 bore ammo. Most of these guns were converted to use modern 8mm Mauser ammo, but it best to know for sure.
For more information there is an entire forum dedicated to the Gew 88.

Re: gew 88 mauser
If you feel inclined, I'd love to have some high res photos of the action. Side showing magazine and top down three quarter view preferred.
