I put slugs through mine during a defensive shotgun course without any issues. Get ready for some kick! Good luck.

well in these slugs i have, Brenneke KO, i noticed they don't have a wad like a regular bird or buck shot so i didn't know if the slug would ruin the barrel because nothing is surrounding the slug

Rifled slugs out of my Mav. 88 (it has an 18" Moss barrel on it) group at about 5" at 50 yds. Not precision, but definitely minute of pig.

Edit: Got a 24" Moss 500 barrel (rifled) that groups much tighter at the same range. It is actually fun to shoot. Has Tru Glo sights on it.

BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.

Should be just fine. I did it many times thru my old Mossy 500. You need to prepare for a good wollop, kicks pretty good. It may not actually be any worse than buck shot, but it feels like it anyway.

Every slug I've run through my 870 has been greater than buckshot recoil-wise.

Expect a nice bruise if you run more than a couple slugs through it at the range. After a hundred or so slugs I still can't get beyond 10-15 without some yellowing and soreness the next day! A 25 round value pack...black and blue.

That being said, there should be no reason to abuse yourself that much. Try a few different brands and see what flies the straightest. Personally I have recently LOVED the Winchester PDX1 Defender loads- a 1oz rifled slug + 3 rounds of 00 (just in case!). It's my HD load and patterns great from my Remington.

Slugs work fine in a Mossberg 500 12 guage, but I wouldn't advise shooting them through a hunting barrel with a choke. An 18 1/2 inch riot barrel gives the least kick with mine, though the 24 inch barrel with front and rear sights works well too, aand is pretty accurate. Be prepared to put a little ice on your shoulder if you fire more than a couple, though....they do pack a whallop!

sorry this response is coming so late but unless the slugs you buy are saboted, they will most likely be "Rifled" slugs designed for shooting out of a smooth bore. They will have the rifling on the slugs so it will spin in a smooth bore. You will want to stay away from sabot slugs becuase they are designed for rifled slug guns. Once a sabot is shot out of a smooth bore, the slug will probably just seperate from the sabot and tumble down range. Probably make for a nasty wound on somethining though haha
