    Default Haven't shot in a while..Cleaning Pistol

    Hello,

I have owned my gun(Glock 19) for about 5 years now but it hasn't been shot in about 3yrs. I want to go shooting but I was wondering whether or not I should clean it before firing it. It was cleaned after the last time it was shot and has been either in the nightstand or in my safe since.

Are there any things to be concerned with since the gun sat for so long?

A friend inherited several guns from his Father in Law(some wwII era rifles and pistols) and would like to take them out shooting as well. It is unknown if/when these guns were cleaned. Any concerns?

    Thanks for the help.
    Steve

It may not be necessary to do a full scrub down, but it would make sense to check the guns for any safety concerns.......cracks, grime, bore obstructions.

    It only takes a min.

yeah, that's probably all you need! Barrel obstruction being the main one

Unload it first....don't need another "Accident"

ETA: whoa..when did I go to +4? have some more, Lycan

+1 to that advice. A quick clean and lube might make it easier to spot any warning signs like hairline cracks or bubbled metal.
