First pistol..what do you recommend?
Planning on buying my first pistol soon. I plan on plinking and target shooting with it, don't really want to carry it....9mm round are pretty cheap....I definitely think I will get a Ruger mark III and a 9.....I think Glocks are a little light, and kinda ugly...The Ruger P89 felt like it had a bit much recoil...Kind of leaning toward a S&W stainless 9......................any suggestions?

Re: First pistol..what do you recommend?
Now that the search function works again, definitely do a board search on "first pistol." There have been several such threads recently.

+1 on the Ruger MK III . It's an excellent first pistol. I shoot mine a helluva lot more than my .45.

Re: First pistol..what do you recommend?
I'm gonna go get the paper.... get the paper...
In my opinion most guns are good guns you just have to find the one that is the right fit for you. If you can go find a place that will let you rent them and try as many as you can.
Agreed Glocks are ugly but they work and will work 99.99% of the time.
If you want a nice looking gun then check out an Hk.. and they are very reliable

Welcome to the forum.
Yes, everyone asks this question.
Yes, you will get opinions.
No, the opinions won't mean a whole lot until you get your hands on a few.
If possible, try before you buy.
Good luck!I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

+1 on the Mark III. GREAT GUN.
As for the rest - just go rent a stack of them that appeal to you. See what fits your hand well, then buy it.

Check out the subcompact thread, a lot of good information in there.
If you can make it out to the group shoot on sunday ( I know you're a bit away though), you're free to try mine out.

Re: First pistol..what do you recommend?
If its your very first def. go with a .22, then move up in a few months to a glock 19.
also -157 on the mk III, they are complete junk my friends got a small gun shop he sold 5 and 4 went back to have work done, they may have the problem worked out by now but i'd never buy one. The MK I's and II's are amazing on the other hand.

Re: First pistol..what do you recommend?
I'm a bit of a P7 whore, but aside from maybe a fun .22 plinker, I'll argue the the HK P7 is the first and only pistol you'll need, unless you live in a war zone.
