Utah vs Florida Non Resident CCW Permit
Utah vs Florida Non Resident CCW Permit
I have decided to get either a Utah or Florida Non Resident CCW permit to go with my Pa & NH CCWs.
What are the pros and cons of each the Utah and Florida CCWs?
1) Which gives more "bang" for the buck
2) What are the issues times for each from each of these states.
3) Any other comment on either to help me decide.
I am leaning toward the Florida Non Resident/
Thanks

Go here. It allows you to create a CCW map based on the permits you hold.

Re: Utah vs Florida Non Resident CCW Permit
It's a very close call. I had to decide 2 or 3 years ago and I went with Florida mainly because I live on the east coast and would be more likely to visit Florida than let's say Washington. Florida costs a little more, but is less demanding on training requirements. They are also very fast to issue. You can study the reciprocal state map on Handgunlaw.com if you choose, but that is really splitting hairs. My comfort zone told me to get the Florida since that's a place I'm more likely to be over the next few years. Good luck choosing, but there is not a big difference. And yes, you should get one or the other if you have the wander lust.

Re: Utah vs Florida Non Resident CCW Permit
To keep it simple, I went with UT based on the cost alone, got it back in 52 days from the day I mailed it here in PA.
I travel to Delaware once a week, they both give me that. There are several states that require you to be a resident of the issuing state, my PA LTCF covers those, including Florida.
Here's a map, with my PA LTCF and the UT permit, I'm good to go in 34 states.

Re: Utah vs Florida Non Resident CCW Permit
Honestly,...get both. Utah will allow you to carry in Nevada (including Las Vegas), Washington (state), and Minnesota in addition to the states that it would share with Florida.
You can go to:
carryconcealed.net and click on THE LAW to see where each state's permit is honored.
If you can afford BOTH I'd say do it.NRA Basic Firearms Instructor
NRA Pistol Instructor

Re: Utah vs Florida Non Resident CCW Permit
Since he already has a PA LTCF getting both would be a waste of money, the Utah permit gives you everything the Florida permit does plus two, the PA license gives you Florida as well as a few others that require you to be a resident of the issuing state.
By the way, Florida also gives you Nevada now. see the map below.

Re: Utah vs Florida Non Resident CCW Permit
SoberByker's advice is right on target. I have a PA, Florida and a Utah and when my FL expires I will be be putting it in my gun safe simply for the fact should I wish to renew it down the road I don't have to prove any training over again because FL will accept the fact that a person previously held a FL permit is sufficient.
My PA and Utah is a perfect couple to have is is very affordable."Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
