Re: Hazleton OCer makes the papers
"In other public places including schools, colleges, courthouses, federal buildings, state parks and airports, people cannot carry guns regardless of whether the weapons are hidden or displayed openly."
I'm not sure if this was a misquote or a misinformed........
To my knowledge, collages are not part of the place not to be carried.
Airports of course in the secure area.
State parks? Aren't we allowed there now? With great power comes great responsibility....

Re: Hazleton OCer makes the papers
That was a pleasant surprise to see in the paper this morning. I jumped on here to share it and saw that you beat me to it
Let us hope for the best, but let us also prepare for the worst.

Re: Hazleton OCer makes the papers
The writers tried and they came pretty close to getting it right.
I like the dude. He's got a pretty damn good attitude about a lot of stuff that would piss me off. I don't like the fact that he has conditioned the Hazelton police to run serial numbers for lawfully carried firearms, but making me happy is not always easy

Good article, but this is full of fail:
When police receive a 911 call about him, Irizarry understands that they have a right to question him. He lets police check the serial number on his gun and shows them his permit from the sheriff's office.Si vis pacem, para bellum

Re: Hazleton OCer makes the papers
I could not agree with you more, though I am not at all surprised. A large percentage of the population are NY/NJ transplants so it is easy to see how OC can quickly turn into a hysterical MWAG call to 911. The police around here have developed a big city attitude, likely in response to a big city crime rate (most of the cops are probably transplants too). Either way kudos to this guy for raising awareness locally. People in Hazleton are fed up with the rising of violent crime. I've seen several mentions in the paper of citizens picking up their LTCF in response to local crime. I've overheard conversations in Lowes and other public places to the same effect.

Re: Hazleton OCer makes the papers
Kudos to the Citizens Voice for publishing an article that is for the most part not biased.

Re: Hazleton OCer makes the papers
I have been OC'ing in Hazelton for about 4yrs. I even OC every year at their car cruise and Funfest. many times I have walked past police officers and never was stopped or questioned. I even OC at the local stores and never a problem. I talked to this gentleman once before at an event were we were both OC'ing, and he told me of his encounters. My feeling is he is being stopped because of his race.
My other issue with this article is the reporters comments from chief ferdinand. he has tole me and my wife that he has no problem with people OC'ing and wished more people would. But then again when can we believe what a reporter says.
