Why are there no cheap 50's?
I think its surprising that a company hasn't come out with a 50BMG rifle (non black powder) that the average gun owner can afford. I bet the person selling the rifle would make a god damn fortune to offer a half decent 50 for $700-1000. I know machining and materials costs money, but who would want a 50 cal for $700 just for the hell of it? Just something on my mind

Good question. The cheapest that I know of is the Serbu BFG-50:

Re: Why are there no cheap 50's?
Hmmm... 12,000 ft-lb of kinetic energy, a few inches from your face, and you want "half decent?" Call me crazy, but I'm gonna hold out for "full decent."
Seriously, there are some very real engineering and manufacturing challenges to producing that kind of gun. I suspect the Serbu for $2,200 is pretty close to the lower limit of financial feasibility.
Plus, I doubt there would be that much of a market for a "cheap" 50. There aren't many places to shoot it, and even if the gun was under $1,000, the ammo is still freakin' expensive.

Here is a cheap way to shoot a 50, but you could bet that you'd never see me firing something like that.

Vulcan 50 rifles, $1900 and from what I hear, they aren't allowed on the range at most long range shooting events.

I thought that the Barret was made of mostly stamped and welded metal and not milled, which is much cheaper to do
