Default Need info on two .22's

I have two old bolt action .22's sitting here with me.

One is a Glenfield arms model 25 s/n 21615860. It also has the (JM) stamp on the barrel. It's in pretty good condition and just serviced by a local gunsmith. Now shoots like new. I was wondering if anyone had any information that might help me in deciding whether or not to sell it and for how much.

The other is a O.F Mossberg & Sons Inc. Model 42 .22 s-l lr. Great shooter. I have taken out many problematic groundhogs with this one. Same as the other I would love some info on this.

From what I understand in my reading, the Glenfield is a Marlin off shoot which rivaled Marlin in quality. The one I have seems to be a 1979 make and worth maybe $100 but no one was sure.

The Mossberg being a Model 42 would be made between 1935 and 1937.

Both guns have the original magazines I understand.

    Anything to help?

    I'll post pictures tomorrow morning.

The Glenfield was made by Marlin in the mid 60's. It was a package deal with a scope for under $70.

    Here's some info I found:

Glenfield Marlin Model 25 rifles were patterned after the Marlin 80C and Marlin 780 rifles. The Glenfield name was added for sales to coast-to-coast chain-stores versus stores that were specific Marlin dealer stores. The Glenfield 25 was manufactured from 1979 through 1982 according to Brophy. Others would suggest the Marlin Glenfield 25 was produced from 1972-1982. Regardless, the Glenfield name was dropped in 1983. The rifle continued as the Marlin Model 25 until 2003, which then became the Marlin 925.

Differences between the Marlin and Glenfied were purely cosmestic i.e. birch stocks instead of walnut stock, different trigger guards, and triggers (black instead of gold colored). It is still being produced in .22LR (Marlin 925) and .22 Magnum (Marlin 925M) versions today.

Most parts between the Glenfield 25 and Marlin 780 will interchange with no problem. Some of the Glenfield 20 and 25 will interchange as well. However, not all late model parts between the Marlin 780 and Marlin 80 will interchange with those models made in the pre-70s.

As for the value, probably between $50 - $125 depending on the condition. You can go to GunBroker and see what they are selling for there.

For the Mossberg, while I'm not sure of the exact value, and of course it will vary depending on the condition of the firearm, the approximate value should be anywhere from $150-$250, again, depending on condition. For a better evaluation, again, I'd go to GunBroker and see what they are selling for and price them accordingly if you plan to sell.
