Default How do you clean your gun?

I searched for previous threads and didn't see anything recent. I'm looking for advice, suggestions, or ideas on how you all clean your semi-autos and even what products you like. I've got a decent universal caliber Gunslick kit that included rods, brushes, mops, patches, and Ultra-Klenz cleaner and Ultra-Lube oil.

I don't have any complaints with those chemicals so far other than I'm thinking something in an aerosol may be quicker. What I have came in small squeeze bottles. I've cleaned my Beretta 92A1 twice now since I've gotten it and the second time was a little quicker than the first but it still takes me an hour or more compared to the 10 or 15 minutes it takes me to clean a revolver. I'd like to get to the point where it takes me about 15 minutes as well.

I'm interested in something like CLP though I don't how well it actually lubes and whether or not you still need to oil. A guy I know said I should look into Rem Oil.

Also, any tips for getting into the tighter areas (like the rails that the slide rides on in the frame) with the cleaner? I've been using a nylon brush and q-tips with decent results. They don't leave any more fuzz than a patch does and they let me dry the cleaner off easier than I can with a patch. Thanks in advance for suggestions. I might be on the look out for anything you guys mention at the Oaks show this weekend.

I can help you with the CLP issue... BreakFree CLP uses the marketing initialism "CLP" for Cleans, Lubricates and Protects... CLP.

As for cleaning guns... I do so rarely and they work fine. I would rather spend time shooting.

I'm sold on Weaponshields. Clean and lubricate. They have a refillable pen (needle nose) for the tight places. Were offering the pen as a free sample. Not sure if they still do.

I use a homemade mixture of G.I. Borecleaner, Kerosene (K-1 clear) Hoppe's #9 and Automatic Transmission Fluid in a G.I. ammo can as a soak. I put the guns in and let them soak a few days then remove and wipe down. I clean the bore with a Boresnake. Lube prior to final assembly.

Toothpicks and Q tips for getting into tight areas. I grew up on Hoppes #9. I was convinced some time ago that it was outdated and there was better stuff out there. I bought what he recommended, which was some gel type cleaner. The bottle is pretty much full and is for sale, I've gone back to #9. Weaponshield for lube.

Deleted first post. Thought it said how often.

I use Hoppes in the bore. Mineral spirits and brake cleaner with tooth bruses and compressed air everywhere else with a hot, soapy sink wash, rinse, and blow dry. Bore gets coated with 100% pure silicone (this after every range session) Regrease and reshoot for the next cleaning (next year).
BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.

First, I get the washcloth nice and soapy. Then... Oh... Wait... Nevermind.
