The Southern Chester County Sportsmen's and Farmers' Association
Anyone here a member? Shed any light on the place?
I just registered for a Hunter Safety course there next month (Mar 08)

Re: The Southern Chester County Sportsmen's and Farmers' Association
I am... nice place.
separate 100/75/50/25/15 yard shooting lanes... FA on tuesdays only... all shooting lanes are covered, and you have to shoot from cover unless it's 22lr.
My only gripe is that there is no shooting anything other than paper. I'd love to get a nice plinking target and shoot 22 at it for hours, but... sad.

Re: The Southern Chester County Sportsmen's and Farmers' Association
I am a member there.
Please drive s-l-o-w-l-y up the drive off 926, it is posted 10MPH.
There is a clubhouse, indoor archery range, trap range, pond for fishing.
The rifle/pistol ranges are 20 yds, 25 yds, 50 yds, 75 yds and 100 yds.
The 20 yd range may be 15 yds, I have heard both, I have never measured it.
Center fire and .22 Magnum shooting is to be done from under the the covered structures.
On Wednesdays from 10-3 the ranges are open for shooting without the cover restriction. The 100 yd range is reserved for the prison guards on Wednesdays.
Paper targets only on the rifle/pistol ranges.

Re: The Southern Chester County Sportsmen's and Farmers' Association
Thanks guys, I have been to the web site before. This seems to be the closest reasonable (long) range to me in Upper Darby. I bought a new Marlin 336 XLR 30-30 I haven't had to a long range yet, just the short indoor range at SPAG in Philly. I thought I'd ask about it since I signed up for the hunters safety class there in a few weeks. I had thought about checking it out before but the you have to join the NRA rule kind of turned me off, not that I don't like the NRA but any rule forcing me to join something else to be a member doesn't sit right with me.
Anyway, I am somehwat familiar with the area, it's been years since I was out that way, is the place easy to find, sign out on 926 easily seen and whatnot?
Thanks again, Bill

Re: The Southern Chester County Sportsmen's and Farmers' Association
Just drive down 926, you will see it on your right (as you head west). You WILL drive past it the first time, as the sign isn't way out on the road.
There is an easy place to turn around just 1/4 mile down the road - gravel lot near a hard turn on 926.
Great place to go shooting - if you want to go as a guest once, let me know... I don't do much with the archery/fishing/camping stuff they do there, but I know my way to the ranges well!

Sober
Use Google Earth to get a really good idea on where it is. It is west of Rt 82, but just short of Newark Rd, on the right. It is not far past the New Bolton Center.
The coordinates to take you to the driveway using Google Earth are:
39°52'09.21"N
75°46'00.98"W
Be advised that the buildings closest to the road are no longer there, the Google Earth photos are several years old. The clubhouse is the building at the end of Sportsman Lane. You can see the ranges to the left of the parking area.
