    Default Beretta

I'm also a big fan of Beretta. I'm thinking about buying the PX4 Storm, full size in .40 Smith.

Would anyone that already has that pistol want to share his or her opinion with me?

    Thanks.

84/5 and 92 series all the way. 8000 cougar also nice.

i hate the unnecessary heavy slab sided look of the px series.

Here's what one VERY well informed individual has to say:

It was a disaster in the Cougar and while the PX4 system is improved, it still doesn't work as well as the proven tilt-barrel system.

When the members of Beretta's IDPA/USPSA pistol team were told they had to start using the PX4, most of them quit instead. They quit their paid, sponsored positions rather than shoot the gun. Clue.

Last year I had a handful of Canadian LEOs in a class who are issued the PX4 in .40 S&W. They literally had to bring a mallet with them to the class. A mallet? Yeah, I was confused, too. Then every 300-500 rounds of shooting, their guns would jam shut and they had to use the mallet to get the things apart.

I'm far from a Beretta basher. I'd carry a 92G (or better yet, a 92G Vertec) without losing a moment's sleep. But the PX4 was another misstep from Italy.
Here's his quick bio, if it helps lend credibility:
With almost fifteen years of experience in the firearms industry, Todd worked for the NRA, Beretta, and SIG-Sauer before starting his own company and the pistol-training.com website in 2007. Todd currently provides training to law enforcement, military, and private citizens around the country as well as consulting services to both industry and government entities.

Todd is also well known for partnering with major firearms manufacturers to complete his high round count pistol endurance tests that have been a mainstay of pistol-training.com for years.

From 2009 to 2010, Todd was the consultant to the ATF New Weapon Solicitation, the largest non-military firearms procurement in U.S. history. Todd played a key role in developing the specifications and test protocols that led to $80M worth of contract awards.

Todd has well over 1,000 hours of tactical training and is a Master-class IDPA competitor. Todd is a certified NRA instructor and graduate of the NRA Law Enforcement Tactical Pistol Instructor Development program. He is a certified Simunition instructor and Emergency First Responder as well as a trained armorer for Beretta, Glock, Heckler & Koch, SIG-Sauer, and Smith & Wesson pistols.
I would take his word with much, much more value than random people who shoot insignificant amounts of ammunition through their weapons.

As for me, I would replace my daily carry HK P2000 with a Beretta 92G without skipping a beat, and have actually played with the idea of buying two over the past month. I'll never own a PX4 though, since I will routinely run my weapons 1000 rounds or more at a time. I don't think it's a bad option if you are just using them for range use or home defense and will never see high round counts in short periods of time. I have shot a few hundred rounds out of one. My observations were:

    1) Incredibly light recoil due to the rotary barrel.
    2) Trigger wasn't as nice as a Beretta 92.
    3) Hated the grip. It's ultra slick, has almost no useful grip texture.

I don't think it's possible for Beretta to make an unattractive gun!

Color me confused, the 92 doesn't use a tilt-barrel system.

I don't think he was claiming the 92 uses a tilt-barrel locked breech.

I think he's saying that rotary barrels aren't as good an option as a proven tilt-barrel system.
