cutting down barrels....
ok, if i cut down a shot gun barrel and it is still at or over the legal limit is that legal or does the barrel have to come from the factory in the length i am looking for?
reason i ask is i want an 8 shot magazine with my mossberg 500, but the only way to do this is with a 28 inch barrel. it is for home protection, so i want to try to keep it as short as possible...
thanks.

Re: cutting down barrels....
So long as the barrel is 18" or more measured from the breechface, you can do whatever you want, however you want, with the rest of the barrel.

Re: cutting down barrels....
measurement procedure is the same as for rifles.
to check any shotgun, cut yourself a dowel 18" long, close the action, drop the dowel down the bbl. if its sticking out, you either paid $200 extra for it or you are in violation of the law.
