    Default Cleaning mops?

At what point in the cleaning process does one use these?

I've never seen them before and they came with the new cleaning kit I just bought.

Instead of running the solvents/etc down the bore, you apply them to the mop, and run the mop down the bore.

How does that differ from wet patches?

The mop is reusable, the patches aren't. The mop is shaped correctly for the bore, the patches aren't. That said, there's no reason you can't use a patch to apply the solvent. The mop is just easier. Though, people will tell you that the mop will eventually (quickly?) become filthy -- an argument similarly applied to bore snakes. Just like we wouldn't use a dirty mop to clean a floor with, we don't want to use a dirty mop to clean the gun with. With all things, there are tradeoffs.

Of course, it's worth noting that when you do your post-clean bore oiling (if you do), that would be the right place to use a clean-but-oily patch if you've been using the mop.

I use them to lightly oil the bore after cleaning.

This is how I've always used mops. I think they leave a thinner more even coat of oil vs. a wet patch.

That's why I like threads like this: There's always more than one way to do things! I was taught that the mop was used for applying cleaner to the bore prior to using the brush to scrub it out. But, I also like the other idea, instead, of using the mop to give the bore its post-clean layer. Were I not a boresnake kinda guy, I'd add a clean mop of oil to my cleaning regiment.

Agreed with above. To oil after cleaning.
