Ridley Creek State Park
This fall I will start archery hunting. The only place close to me is Ridley Creek State Park. I was wondering if there is anyone out there who has hunted in Ridley Creek State and can give me their impressions and advice.
Specifically:
Is it safe?
State park rules say the park doesn't open until sunrise. Can I walk in before sunrise to be set up for the sunrise?
Can I park on the side of the road or do I need to use the parking lots? Meaning a possible long walk in and a long drag out(hopefully).
Is it worth my time(are there any deer there)?
Are the rangers(or any law enforcement) OK with your presents.
Is there anything else I should know?
Thank you for your time and input.

Re: Ridley Creek State Park
I thought that in order to hunt there you had to win their lottery, whether you're hunting archery or shotgun. I hunted with a shotgun there back in the late 80's and swore I'd never go back (too many hunters, buckshot hitting the leaves around me, etc.) If archery hunting is permitted there w/o a lottery permit during a non-firearms season, that's great. Maybe I'll head there next year instead of hunting behind O'Hara & Don Guanella.

Re: Ridley Creek State Park
Can I carry a concealed handgun there if I have my LTCF?
I wasn't sure because I know that there are some municipalities trying to make their areas inaccesible to licensed gun owners.

Re: Ridley Creek State Park
Update:
I called the park office, they said to call the Game Commission. I called the SE Game Commission office, they said to call the park office.
So,
Does anybody have the email or office number of the WCO for Delaware County or the head Ranger for Ridley Creek State Park. I don't want to assume one way or the other and I don't want waste my time talking to receptionist who don't know and don't care enough to find out.

Wondering if anyone ever found out if you can hurt there during archery season. Myself and a Co-worker are talking about getting into archery and wanted to know since this is close to us.

Re: Ridley Creek State Park
Yes, about 1/2 of the part is open to archers during both archery and firearms seasons. Note I said it's open to Archers. Don't go there with a shotgun or muzzleloader during firearms season unless you are in one of the lottery hunts, during which I think the park is closed to archers.
Stop by the park office and pick up a map. It highlights the areas where archery hunting is allowed.
This map also shows where archery hunting is allowed, although IMO the shading between the hunting and non-hunting areas looks nearly the same, so I would not trust it. The map you can get at the park office is much better.
I also spoke to a park ranger and, based on my recollection, he said that hunters can enter the park prior to sunrise. However, I'm just some anonymous dude on the interwebz so you might want to confirm it with a call to the park office or stop by and talk to a ranger.
On another forum there was mention of PETA-type's slashing tires, etc. of persons they suspected might be hunting there and harassing guys in tree stands, so you might want to take that under consideration.
If anyone wants to put a hunt together, feel free to PM me. I'm looking for other like-minded folks to hunt with in the area.
