Most likely a worn out sear.

Very dangerous condition. It will probably go full auto or at least double or triple if you shoot it. get it to a 1911 gunsmith ASAP.

Likely the above. Do you drop the slide on an empty chamber a lot?

Or the sear spring is messed up badly. Take it apart recently?

It's OK to drop the slide on an empty chamber on a 1911, isnt it?

Depends on how fast you want your 1911 to run........

Did you remove the mainspring housing for any reason? Is the disconnector protruding or staying down in the frame?

Probable the sear spring. Take it apart again and put it back together right.

If the problem occurred after you took it apart its probably the sear spring. Try and go to a bookstore or get a hold of a book on .45's.Like Hallocks .45 Auto Handbook. Most have diagrams of the proper angle of the spring and hammer hooks. Bend to specs. and try it. If you have another sear spring that you know works and was not altered use it. Also make sure you place the spring properly before you close the housing.
