Isosceles vs Weaver

In body armor, isosceles. Out of body armor, weaver.

I often tilt the gun 20 degrees when shooting strong or weak hand only.

That's not strange. Most hunters and long range riflemen shoot bladed to the target since both hands tend to be spaced apart on a long gun.

On a lighter gun with a vertical foregrip or where the hands are relatively close you can stand square to the target. It's also preferred in some circles when using body armor and when targets are relatively close.

theres A LOT of confusion out there about what exactly is a current weaver and a current ISO.

Have been initially trained in weaver and then moving to ISO and getting more current instruction I can say without a doubt most people who argue this the most dont have a common language to even speak in about it.

Offsetting ones feet doesnt make you a weaver shooter. Modern ISO doesnt do the square to target stick your butt out stance. ECT ect ect

the defining difference is in the grip. And I can tell you from my experience there are some very good old school instructors who look like they are shooting weaver but are interacting with the gun in a very iso way......

I would say the major diff is this, grip. Weaver proponents use a push/pull technique while ISO shooters use a clam shell support hand and a nuetral (not weak) grip. The neutral technique is more consistent and lends itself to both more accurate and faster fire.

I prefer a modern adapted ISO as a base for fighting with a gun, but one should also consider compromised positions, one handed shooting, retention shooting at close quarters , and creating a stable base to fight from where have you both stability and agility .

PS Im cross dominate (as is Larry Vickers and a lot of high level shooters ) and I find a more centered position easier to work from .

I shot Weaver for many years but have moved to iso in the last 3 or so. I shoot better now that I have changed. It was hard for me to do as my last name is Weaver.

I'm more self defense oriented than racer, so I tend to fire from the clamshell 60 degree push pull counter-rotate one handed Dunflebach stance. When I do feel like shooting for shooting's sake, I'll use Mod-Weaver just because it is very natural for me. I do introduce new shooters to Iso though, as it seems the easiest to pick up and get good results.

Right handed and left eye dominant and I shoot something that is not Weaver and is some form of ISO, not sure what it is called this week.

One thing to note, I have never heard of anyone switching to Weaver, always here of people switching to a form of ISO.
