    Default Introducing the self-guided bullet.

    ...
Working in tandem with laser designators, each bullet measures around four inches in length. An optical sensor can be seen at the tip of the round, which can detect a laser beam that would be used to “paint” a target. Inside, the bullets are able to communicate with the different sensors that are gathered via sensors which also communicate with the bullet allowing it to steer and maneuver to its destination.

Chief among the new “smart bullets” abilities is the way in which the guided rounds can actually “self correct” its navigational path 30 times a second and at the same time traveling at the speed of sound.

At 4" long it sounds more like a laser guided "shell" rather than a bullet.

Still, at some point, guided bullets will no doubt become a reality. Not that civilians would ever be able to afford them.

At least, not citizens like you and me.

I wonder if anyone else is increasingly troubled by the technological sophistication that has changed and continues to change armed combat. By that I mean that killing your enemy was a very different things when it took physical exertion on your part, and you had more direct physical contact with said enemy.

I'm curious if there have been any PTSD-related studies done regarding technology and combat.

You might find "On Killing" by Lt Col Dave Grossman interesting. He covers all of that.

No matter what Gee-Whiz super weapon comes out it will always be one on one Infantry that ends up being the deciding factor. The more complicated the weapon the more often it fails or never performs as practiced.

The last thing I want to do is hurt you... but believe me, it's on the damned list.
