Taurus 327 revolvers discounted-any opinions
All,
I noticed a few online sites have discounted revolvers called "Taurus 327". They have been discounted around 100 bucks from300 something to 200 something dollars. A few years back I looked at a Taurus chambered for .32 Mag called the 731UL. It appeared to be well made. I'm not sure of these ones though. Anyone have any experience with them-maybe discounted for a reason?

The caliber doesn't bother me. I already have some but didn't know if this piece was a dog or a good buy.

No particular problems that I've heard of, but the .327 Mag caliber hasn't really taken off, and Taurus may well be discontinuing them.
The .327 is an interesting cartridge, but it's scarce and expensive. I've been tempted by those cheap Taurus 327s, but realistically, the ammo costs will eat up the money saved pretty quickly.

Re: Taurus 327 revolvers discounted-any opinions
There is nothing wrong with the gun. It is the caliber. It isn't as popular as it used to be. Everyone has either 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, and now, 10mm, which is starting to parade around, more. Even the .380 is more popular, now. .327 Federal magnums are no slouch. The ballistics show that it is darn fast for a 100/115 gr bullet out of a short barrel revolver. It makes a heck of a hunting round for small game if you have a longer barreled revolver. At around .50 ea for ball and right at 1.00 for HP, they are not cheap. My guess is that's why some shops are trying to move these at much lower prices.

Re: Taurus 327 revolvers discounted-any opinions
This is a cut from something I replied to another thread with, FWIW.
I will throw one last thing into the mix, caliber. A typical .40 S&W defensive round, Federal 165 Hydoshock, at 980 FPS will produce 352 ft/lbs of kinetic energy and generate about 5 ft/lbs of felt recoil. The Ruger GP-100 in .327 magnum holds 7 rounds and launches a 100 grain round at 1500 FPS producing about 500 ft/lbs of energy just at or under 5 ft/lbs of recoil to your hands. While you can get more powerful .40 rounds the recoil also goes up, so with about the same amount of “kick”, you are putting over 40% more energy on target with the .327 in this example. Add to that you can shoot .32 H&R magnum, .32 S&W and .32 S&W longs from the same revolver so imagine learning how to shoot with .32 long wadcutters using under 2 grains of powder and you see the flexibility. No one, semiautomatic or revolver is better than the other in all categories and that is why many people end up with both.
Just food for thought..........

The .327's are on the same 85 series as all the other Taurus j-frame sized guns. ...which there are lemons, but the vast majority are good guns.
I've buy one in a heartbeat if I had the extra coin laying around.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515

Re: Taurus 327 revolvers discounted-any opinions
I never even considered the .32 caliber pistol/revolver until I read one of 32 Magnum's threads. It prompted me to Wikipedia it and then a test on one of these revolvers came up in 'American Rifleman'. I think it would be a cool revolver to have. I think of it as a .22 mag on high quality steroids. There is only one shop out of seven in my city that keeps the magnums in stock. Regular 32 ACP can be had 'bout anywhere here, including WM.

$238 at buds is cheapest I've found. If it shoots 327 mag, 32 h& r mag, 32 long and short, why not? None of them are super cheap, but lots of options. I haven't been a huge taurus fan, bit I recently bought the 38 protector poly and really like it! Have you seen lower than $238?
