My dad and I went to our local 200yd range today. Two seasons on this fire hose and its finally giving up. We lost three out of four targets today

That’s a good idea! I’ve been using heavy chain and they don’t last 2 years. I was considering some truck retread strips from the side of the highway, but where does one find used fire hose?

Shot my .30 carbine (M1) at steel on the 300 meter yesterday. Was there with a friend who spotted for me.

Dull overcast day, iron sights, breezy off and on. There is a target frame with backer board to the left. To the right is the frame and suspended steel, neither of which was sharp to my naked eye. What was discernible was the dirt behind the frame was a hue darker than the surrounding dirt. My spotter friend said the steel was dull steel colored, and was a little lower than midway down within the frame, and a little left of center. I was able to see the suggestion of a lighter spot in the area he described. Not sure of the size of the steel, just guessing it looked like 10 inches.

Setting the ramped rear sight on 300 gave excellent elevation on my reloads. I found that aiming with both eyes open helped immensely in barely seeing that steel.

Fired about 25 rounds, some of them to adjust windage, never hitting the steel, but came very close to hitting it when I got to the point where I figured it all out. Friend said were it a man standing there, he would have been having a bad day.

I think some sunshine might have made it easier.

Ooops. Just noticed this is a pic thread. Sorry if I offend.

There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

Sighted in new in line muzzleloader which after 8 shots was a painful process to the shoulder.
Then shot the .308 with Dead Air Sandman. A much more pleasurable shooting experience.

I got a .308 Remington 783 with a 16" threaded barrel that I've hardly shot other than a quick sight in.

Rolled up a couple of handloads to see where I'm at (and it ain't good). Using Hornady 180gn over Varget I can't explain the extreme rise from point of aim(bullseye).

On the other hand the rifle seems to love Federal Gold Medal Match 175gn. Both groups are 4 shots which is the limit on the mag capacity. The GMM blew my mind and is actually 4 holes on top of each other. (Not to shabby for a $350 gun)

    No pics, but not horrible.

And I need shooting glasses with a cheater lens. I can't get focus on the front sight anymore.
Finally made it to the range with my self-assembled AR. It functions reasonably well. The users can probably get a fair amount better with it. For about $6-700, I'm very happy with it, and now I have all the tools I need to assemble another one!

I'll try and remember to get pictures the next time.
Biggest take away, if I want to shoot more than 50 yards away, I probably need a better sight. I got a cheap $50 one that is adequate, but I wasn't able to get my eye close enough to get the full sight picture. (And I need to make sure it is locked down and not rattling around before trying to zero it in.)

But it is an AR, and for the uses I'm likely to need it for, it is decent enough.

Hit my local PGC range to knock the dust off of my hunting handguns.

    14"T/C Contender in .44 Magnum.

First shots were low, then adjusted too high. Last group was dead on!

    14" T/C Contender in 7-30 Waters.

Couple of low shots were me, the rest....dead on!
