    Default Hawk 1, pigeon 0

Went to put out our dog before going to the store and found this in the back yard........

We live on the outskirts of the city, but always put out a bird feeder in the winter. Hate the pigeons, love the smaller birds. Not the first pile of feathers I've found in the yard! We've seen the hawk in our tree or on the neighbors roof. Looks like the hunting was good tonight!

Are you going to keep the feathers and make a pillow with them?

I love hawks....they be some bad-ass mofo's. The only bad thing, I've seen what they can do to small dogs too. It ain't pretty.

Occasionally as I walk across the Franklin St. bridge from Sheetz to downtown in Johnstown, a hawk will nab one of those feathered turd bombers. By quitting time, all thats left is a picture like that.

I've seen the after effects of hawk/pigeon encounters in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh.

The Cathedral of learning and St Paul's Cathedral have some resident hawks.

I was working on a lower roof of St. Pauls and it was raining feathers and blood spatter. In the 10 months or so I worked there on and off, I saw feathers coming down on 3 occasions. Wonder if the pigeon ever won?

there's a couple of 50' pine trees out back.
we were out there STS and heard a camotion in one of the trees. limbs started flopping, starting at the top and working down, some bird was squealling and carring on. we turned around with a WTH is that.
out from the bottom emmerged a little hawk(with a kick the door in and roll half way across the room entrance), that i'm guessing was a coopers, and grasped in it's talons was a starling. the starling was crying for it's life while the little hawk sat there on top of it working it's hooks in an attempt to kill the little bird......all this with in 20 ft of us....it was trying to kill the bird and staring at us(with one of those ''yeah i did, what are you going to do about it?'' looks.) all at the same time, the whole time the starling is squealing away. this goes on for 2-3 minutes while we stood there just taking it in. as suddenly as they both showed the hawk took to flight with it's prize still alive, still in it's grasp.
we looked at one another and just wowed. then went back to our STS session.

5 mintues later the bird returned....with it's meal still squealing, agian not more than 30 ft from us. this time it gave up trying to kill it, and just started plucking it.
at which time the nieghbor came out and spooked it off, with it's meal. neither returned agian
