Thumbs down Posting of Guns for sale as assault weapons

Not sure if this post belongs here.
Gun owners have had years of people labling AR15's and other guns as assault weapons. In my opinion we dont need to do it on this site.If you list it for sale it doesnt make it sell any better we all know what they are.
    Thats just my opinion

Is assault really such a bad word? If TSHTF, you're damn right I want a legal assault/combat/military rifle!

What would you otherwise call an AR-15 or AK-47?

I agree with both of you but perception is (almost) everything.

An assault weapon MUST have full auto capability by definition.ARs and AKs are there for not assault weapons by definition.Assault weapons are used by the antigun media and unfortunately gun owners fall for it by calling them assualt weapons when they are not.If you noticed there is a trend at calling ARs and similar rifles tactical weapons which is alot less "fearful" sounding.

When your dealing with the vast majority of the public who get their information on guns from the left wing media and Hollywood and automatically assume that anything that looks like a machine gun must be a machine gun ? Yes , image is everything and words mean things ! I have tried to explain to people for years that like it or not, the Pro 2A/ Anti 2A War is a PR War first and foremost. We dont have to like it, but we do have to accept it, acknowledge it and play the game within its constraints if we want to win.

In many ways we have the Anti's on the ropes and they near daily reveal themselves as being the true " nut jobs " with their ever outlandish demands and outright lies. There's no reason to give back those very real gains in public perception just for the sake of a couple words. Not to mention the true definition of an assault rifle ( according to the DOD ) is one that is capable of selective fire, including fully automatic.

I have no problem with calling AR's or AK'S (or any other "scary looking rifle") a semi auto or "sporterized " or any other more accurate and benign sounding adjective, it can only help us.

This had irked me for a while, but I never felt is was worth posting a thread about.

I see sellers here, Pennswoods, on GB and even in the local trader papers advertising their Assault weapons.
There is even a shop that has been talked about here and that advertises politically incorrect weapons for sale in a local paper.
Who really gives a crap? If I'm looking for an AR, a place with a tagline like that is someplace I'll probably stay away from, childish and guns don't mix IMO.

I just don't get it either, as to the private sellers, maybe their target audience is gangbangers/felons that cannot buy in a shop and they are making it easier for a search engine to find the ads?
That may also explain the outrageous asking prices as well.

Puts me to mind of a shop I seen advertised in the Northern Cambria area, Reaper Crew Firearms?
Really, what are they, like 10 year olds running the shop or guys that have watched way to much Sons of Anarchy?
Childish and not worth my time.

How about "AR-15"or AK-47"? Anybody who's interested will know exactly what that means, and personally I'd avoid anyone who used that term in an ad. One success of the antis has been to convince the masses that these are "machine guns." We don't need to help them.

Technically yes, but most people don't know the distinction, so I don't think it makes any difference to those outside poofa what you call an AR-15.

I guess we need a better term. "Tactical" is used for so many things now, it doesn't really mean much.

The point is that all Anti- activity is based more on perception than on facts. And for someone in the general public who is not knowledgeable of firearms perception IS reality.

IOW it not only does make a difference, it makes ALL the difference.

The shitstorm coming during 2012 (and if things go wrong, far worse in 2013) alone ought to make clear that details and words matter.
