Re: Walmart wants to SCAN my drivers license! WTF!?!?
This was one incident at one or two WM stores. I purchased a few boxes of 9mm ammo from the Wilkes Barre Wal-Mart on Thursday and they never even asked for my ID.
Like I said, there is a human element that we need to consider here. The guy selling the ammo may have just swiped the DL because he believed that was the right thing. When all stores start swiping them for ammo purchases (Dicks, Gander, Cabelas, WM, and others), then lets start to worry.

Re: Walmart wants to SCAN my drivers license! WTF!?!?
I must admit I didn't read the whole thread. In responce to the OP, this has happened to me also at Wallyworld. I didn't say anything I opened my wallet like the moron was gonna get my licence...what he got was my carry permit...he promply rang up my ammo and I was on my merry way.

Re: Walmart wants to SCAN my drivers license! WTF!?!?
Idea behind the game is to gain advantage by gathering as many snippets of info as possible from your target / enemy whilst denying them the same.
Like a puzzle, they can be fitted together to form a pattern or picture.
These can be used against you especially in light of the Patriot Act and other laws being bantered about/passed.
I have no problem with marketing determining that x number of people buy this brand and how much of it etc. Or that x type of people tend to buy this and how much. Or even that the average Walmart shopper is 34 yo, buys 20 bucks of groceries and 50 bucks in electronics per visit, makes 35K per year and is male.
But not that Joe Blow is 52yo, buys 100 rnds .223 per month, plus lots of gun cleaning supplies and MREs etc.
It is similar to the Cards they track the gamblers with. If you were ever targeted for an investigation, they would know where you like to stay etc. etc. Even your frequent flyer miles may limit you to certain hotels.
And by the time you would find out, it would be too late. Once all the pieces are in place, a simple classified move could stitch it all together.
One should be concerned. Not necessarily paranoid, but use common sense. We are too loose with our personal info whether it is our mail, garbage or the computer.
What is that quote, "Those that would give up a little liberty for a little safety deserve neither."? This may be a bit of a paraphrase, but you get the gist.

I only need to say one word....TAXES!
The list of illegal taxes is long and numerous, but lets stay on topic.

Slightly different situation. Firearms are a strictly controlled substance. Since a background check is submitted every time that a firearm is purchased, and that the S/N of the gun in question is on that form, they have been keeping tabs on gun sales for years. Not quite the same thing as a retailer selling your info for profit... come on.. don't reach too far here...
