Re: Walmart wants to SCAN my drivers license! WTF!?!?
This prob just the moron at walmart and bad training.
We used to have scanners for ID's at my store, all they did was confirm it was a vaild ID and display the age. We used to have people use them because obviously looking at a date on the card and doing the math is too hard.
Seriosly though, anyone who ever bought cigs or alchohol underage knows, just habd them an ID and they will serve you. Doesnt have to be yours, or look like you, or matter if its expired. People just dont look.
So we used to have them scan them.
There is no law though, or even a "have to" store policy.
If the customers doesnt like it, fine. who cares?
I always tell my clerks That all I really care about is following the law, and making sure they leave with less money then when they came in.

Re: Walmart wants to SCAN my drivers license! WTF!?!?
I've scanned mine before where I work (I work for a company that processes and encodes gift cards). I don't think there is anything on the mag stripe that isn't on the front of the card. I'll have to swipe it again when I get to work on Monday and find out for sure. I'll let you all know.

Re: Walmart wants to SCAN my drivers license! WTF!?!?
I don't think I have ever even been asked to show ID when buying ammo there.

Re: Walmart wants to SCAN my drivers license! WTF!?!?
I surely don't think you have anything to worry about having your ID scanned at Walmart... If we act this paranoid, we won't recruit many new individuals to our side.
What did you think? Walmart now has a database of what you bought and how many 9mm rounds are in your basement?? Cmon...
Wait, did you pay with plastic? (uhh oh...) Or do you only buy anything firearms related with untraceable small denomination bills?
If we act like we're doing something wrong, then we're only reinforcing that very misconception in those minds who are, as of yet, undecided...

Re: Walmart wants to SCAN my drivers license! WTF!?!?
Haha... But that's the weird sense of things I was getting from this thread.
I read all of the posts, but I don't remember if the OP was clad with a tin foil cap. I just can't understand how people can get so paranoid that it starts dictating odd choices. But, I guess that's why the creditors are makin big buck selling (ooo ahhhh) "identity theft protection". It's all the same. Just playing on uninformed fears...

I don't think it's an odd choice not to want your private info scanned by China-Mart! Will you also be ok with retina scans that remember your shopping preferences and won't let you buy donuts because your doctor said no? Stange days are ahead my friends...buy more ammo! (Just not at Wally World!) LOL

I understand your concern
But your purchase was in a college town. The ordinance may be a local one or just something that Walmart chooses to do to cover their ass in case of any shootings at the school.
The magnetic strip reader is being used state wide in PA for use in bars to id check the patrons. and every one should be checked no matter the age. cause if a problem arrises about an underage purchase the owner of the establishment can tell the authorities i check ID of everyone period. And if you don't have your id then you don't get served or the pleasure of buying from that establishment (and does it really hurt the two seconds it takes to swipe the card) and if you have driven to anywhere with out your license then you have already broken some other rules as well.
any ways support you local gun store first, price may be higher but the service and quality of service will be first rate. In state college, clearfield is not terribly far away to go to grices or bob's, I am sure their are others closer yet.Advice: Shoot Straight and Shoot Often
