Seeking gun buddy
Yea I know it sounds kind of funny. I moved up hear about a year ago and all my buddies are back in the socialist state of MD.
I am self employed and travel and I don't meet many fellow gun types in my line of work anyway. I belong to Green Hills and thought maybe I will run into someone up there but no luck except for the old dudes. Don't get me wrong they are cool to shoot with but not to hang out with. BTW I am 41 so when I say old dudes I mean old-timers!
So if anyone else is looking for a shooting, reloading, watching football and aggravating the wives with trips to guns shows and spending too much money let me know.

Re: Seeking gun buddy
Most clubs have Sunday trap shoots that turn into drinking at the bar and carrying on. These events are generally open to the public. Most of the guys are gun culture 1.0 (bolt action and revolvers, hunters). There are a few of us gun culture 2.0 (ARs, AKs, polymer pistols, defensive shooting, competition) who are starting to attend the Sunday shoots. You're smack in the middle of two clubs. Lebanon Valley and Mohnton. Both have shoots this Sunday, both have bars.

I could use one as well. I don't have a lot of friends to begin with and the ones I do think I'm an A Team reject. They don't like guns, their interest is in tv or the internet. Meh

Re: Seeking gun buddy
I'm in Pottstown, but drive, so I'm always looking for people to hang out with as well. My biggest issue is that on my days off, I watch my soon to be three year old daughter, so she goes with me.
I don't put people into classes...firearms are firearms, so if the person is old school or into high tech firearms...it's all good to me.

Re: Seeking gun buddy
Let me expand upon the gun culture statement. I have a relative who is very much gun culture 1.0. He hunts everything that moves, has a closet full of bolt action hunting rifles for everything from yard game to elephants. He's a member of the NRA. He also thinks that my AR should be illegal. He also thinks my 30 round pmags are only for the military. He still buys into the idea that my Glock is all plastic and it too should be illegal. In fact, he thinks anything that is not used for hunting should be illegal as there is no purpose to own it. He also can't figure out why I "waste" my time with USPSA, IDPA, and steel shoots - since the only form of competitive shooting is hunting.
Now, I'm very much gun culture 2.0. I have had a hunting license, but I don't now. I own lots of semi auto rifles and pistols. I don't think anything should be banned. I still support the NRA and I'm a strong supporter of hunting. I like the competitive side of shooting, from trap to CMP to defensive shooting sports.
So, it helps to know who you're going to be shooing with. It also helps to know the culture of where you're going to be shooting. I had a board member, at one of the clubs to which I belong, tell me that "we're a conservation club and that assault rifle (media term) has no place on this range, and if I could talk the other member into it - we'd ban them from this club since there is no reason to own one of them". This was a club board member and not a Brady bunch board member.
So, anyway. If you're gun culture 1.0, there are a lot of clubs in Berks county that will welcome you in and make you feel right at home. If you're gun culture 2.0, there are a few Berks county clubs that will welcome you and make you feel right at home; and they will have all the facilities, events and people you're looking for.
Those are the differences in the gun cultures. More about them is written here:

Re: Seeking gun buddy
Jerry... just drop me a message on FB if you need to get out of the house.
I'm usually pretty free during the week.

Re: Seeking gun buddy
Hi ACRblaze,
Sorry, I haven't been keeping up with the Berks forums too much but I just read this thread. I live in West Lawn as well, probably real close to you. My wife and I moved here in 2010 from the Socialist republic of MA and I have gotten into shooting since then. When the weather gets a little warmer and you want to come over to chat over cleaning guns or head out to the range (I belong to Cocalico...not too far away) let me know. Send me a PM so we can exchange addresses if you want. I work from home so my hours are pretty flexible plus I'm not too much older than you...46. So we probably have a good amount to chat about.
Take care,
Avelino
