Why is this? In case they don't let you back in your car? I guess so make sure you have your keys, but sometimes they don't let you grab your keys....

The irony is that you don't see the fail in your post.

No, its so the officer can't create a false pretext to conduct a search

Your example is one of breaking the law. What the officer did was
departmental procedure not supported by law, but the willingness
of the participant to go along.

While it may be hard to roll up the window while the cop is standing there, it is best just to roll it down just far enough to conduct a conversation and hand them the paperwork they need. Leaving the door open after you get out can be viewed as an invitation to go inside and grab whatever you want. Closing the door behind you requires the officer to have justifiable cause to conduct any type of search what so ever. Cops like to pretend they are helping you open the door by holding onto the frame of it as you are exiting the vehicle. This is to prevent you from closing the door behind yourself and sets up the scenario to an open door implied consent search. Don't fall for that trick.
Never heard of "implied consent search". Does that exist?

    ----------

But anyway, closing the door is sound advice.

You could say to the LEO..."Oh, let me shut the door as I am traveling with my pet BOA and I don't want him to get out.

judge: "Did you obtain a warrant before searching his car?"
LEO: "No, but it was implied that he consented your honor"
    judge: "OK, that seems reasonable"
you: "What the f*ck just happened??"

Nope, I don't think it exists..

While there isn't "implied consent" there is "open view", cop could see a white pebble in your floor mat, claims it looks like a crack rock, now they have every reason to search your car.
