    Default CB Radio

Does anyone know of a good place in the area to have a cb tunes and peaked?

Thinking of getting a Cobra 25 or 29 for my truck.

Last radio shop around was down on 222 near reading. Hey after my PM I remembered I used to carry a dinky little 29 dollar uniden in my sidebox for backup. Volume, channel dial and a noise canceling switch yet was one of the best radios I had and easy to mount cause of size. My 29LTD was tricked out and a good radio too.

+1 on R and R. I've done business with them several times. Might not be "in the neighborhood" but they are worth the 2-hour drive for me.
While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Russ, at R & R is pretty good, no sales tax, not far for me, I used to go there all the time, but nowI just order most stuff from the internet.

That said, Cobra 25 & 29 are popular models and you can find instructions to do it yourself on the net.

Here's a good article to read about peak and tune.

How to peak a Cobra 29:

Personally I'd go with the 29 because of the SWR meter and RF gain, but if space is a problem the 25 is in a smaller box. Either way you go I'd get a good external SWR meter to use as well. The most important part of a CB Radio set up is the proper tuning of a good attenna.

I had 29's in my tri-axle dump trucks for years, they do take a beating and still perform. I have since replaced my dump truck radio with a Uniden PC78 Elite when the 29 finally died. I like that this radio has weather alert on it. I have a Uniden PC68LTW in my car, same radio as the 78 but no SWR meter and it's smaller.

The Cobras and Unidens are pretty much the same radio, the 29 & 78 and the 25 & 68. I just got a better deal on the Unidens this time.

Norm - I have a SW meter if you want to take a drive down

Speaking of CB - I have a Cobra 75 and last week drove down and back to NC on 95 and was disappointed that not many seemed to be using it. I remember many years ago at least truckers would give a heads up on Ch 19 on speed traps but I heard zero and past tons of LEO.

Thanks for the offer. I am a few weeks away from doing anything. Its cold out, and it looks as if I will be starting a new job in the next few weeks.

When I hear of states cracking down on using cellphones while driving I think of CB users and wonder if they get harassed since they aren't "hands-free"?
