Default Woo Hoo! Finally got my Utah permit. Well, maybe.

After 7 weeks of the daily routine where I cross my fingers and peek in the mailbox, my Utah permit finally arrived today. And after all that time it's a contingent permit - grrr! So I still have to hope there's no snafu with the FBI (shouldn't be), but at least I can finally carry in Ohio. I know they're backed up with the change in requirements, but geez... should've just gone with AZ.

Oh well, I'm still happy to have it!

They say this because Utah runs their entire permit database against NICS on a regular schedule, to make sure no one becomes prohibited before they are up for renewal.

So do you get a temporary permit/license at first until you clear FBI and then they send you out the permanent one?

Seems kind of strange that they would issue to someone when they are not 100% certain of the background check???

And they do this because they are way behind in issuing?

Oh well, I don't plan on getting a UT anyway.

No...they send the actual permanent one....just with the FBI check stipulation. Not sure if it has anything to do with being behind since I got the same letter in 2009.

IIRC, the instructor said this was the reason. They have a policy to issue within so many days but often have trouble meeting that deadline because the FBI is slow. So after they run their own checks they'll issue a temp permit to meet their deadline even if they haven't heard back from the FBI. If that check eventually comes back clean, you're good to go; if not, the permit can be revoked by Utah.

As it was explained to me by the Instructor who taught the course I took. The FBI portion, specifically the fingerprints take longer.

If the rest of your app comes back squeaky clean they send you your permanent card and that letter.

You can carry on it fully once you receive it and you will not receive any other notices unless the FBI raises a question and then you will be notified about it.

So from here on out no news is good news.
