looking to get into the shotgun sports near philly area
hey everyone, ive been getting more and more into shooting lately and the last area i have yet to tap is shotgunning. i bought a really nice used ithaca 37, made in '56 with a modified choke that i think fits me good.
ive been meaning to shoot skeet with my stepdad back home in virginia but our schedules havent worked out yet. in the meantime, can anybody recommend a place for somebody who really only has rifle and pistol experience a good place to try trap or skeet? i hear table trap at delaware county is a good starter?
anywhere within driving distance of philly and i'm there!

Re: looking to get into the shotgun sports near philly area
Table trap at DCFS is good fun. They have lots of different launchers with different angles and spring strengths. I took a day off monday and was blasting some clays with the wife.
They also have 3 skeet fields, (i think) 4 voice activated trap fields and a 5-stand field.
I've only done trap and table trap, but its good fun and everyone was quite friendly.
The only downside to DCFS is that it can be a bit of a madhouse on the weekends, but it seems like the shotgun sports are significantly less crowded. Last weekend the high-power range was packed , but there were only me and 4 other guys shooting on the trap fields.
If you don't want to buy a membership but wont mind driving a little more, check out Ommelanden hunter training center in Delaware. It's public and is open some weekdays, and has trap, skeet and 5-stand (also rifle, pistol and archery). I've shot a few rounds of trap and 5-stand there, as well as used the rifle range before I joined DCFS.
Hope this Helps.

not certain of the winter hours but for closeness, price, and available targets i find holmesburg gun club hard to beat. 5 bucks a round for non members and they have either open skeet, trap, or Chinese trap four days of the week
Tuesday, Wednsday, Thursday evenings and all day long on Saturday.
i have not been to any but they also have registered shoots and leagues

We have a couple of expert instructors who will go one on one with you to get you started as long as it is not a Lehigh Valley Trap League day.
Click on the link then click all the buttons on the left to see what we offer.
You do not have to join to try us out. Nonmembers can shoot our shotgun ranges for the same price as members which is currently $3.50 for a round of twenty five but you cannot go into the bar unless you are the guest of a member.
