need input on snub noses revolvers
hey guys, interested in getting a snub nose revolver with a 2-3 inch barrel for personal protection and range shooting. My question is are they decently accurate if I shoot from a range of 20-25 yards?

Re: need input on snub noses revolvers
What's decently accurate? I can do, at 25 yds, about an 8 inch group. Deadly, I guess...

Re: need input on snub noses revolvers
Depends on you, the trigger, the weight of the gun and how hot a load you use. With my old S&W 36 I can stay on a 8" plate all day at 25 yards with Win silvertips 110 standard presure loads. Not quite as good with my 442 yet, heavier trigger and less weight, but working on it. Just bought a Charter 2000 .44 bulldog pug, have not fired it yet, but it should be fun!

Re: need input on snub noses revolvers
You'll get some different opinions here. Here's mine.
Can you shoot a snubby accurately at 25 yards? Yes
Are there easier pistols to shoot accurately at 25 yards? Yes, just about all of them.
Guys who claim to shoot their snubbies accurately at 25 yards fall into one of three groups.
Group 1) Flat out full of shit.
Group 2) Not ENTIRELY full of shit, but they only remember the 5 rounds out of 50 that hit the bull
Group 2) Practice practice practice. They are hard guns to shoot, but with practice, anything is possible.
I carry a Smith 642 Airweight in .38 SPL. I am in the fourth group. I do not practice enough for that kind of accuracy, but I can put all 5 shots in a 4" target in 2 seconds...from 7 yards.VEGETARIAN: Native American word meaning "bad hunter"

Re: need input on snub noses revolvers
To make a general statement here. The snubbies are probably capable of accuracy that most shooters will never attain. Whether it be frp, recoil or lack of practice. The firearm its self CAN be accurate at 25 yards. Then again, "ACCURATE" can mean several different things.

Re: need input on snub noses revolvers
The gun itself is capable of accuracy good enough for most any defensive purpose. Other guns will be easier to shoot, and most other guns will be more mechanically accurate as well.
Some short barreled revolvers can be picky about the loads they like...I would definitely recommend resting the gun and shooting a few groups with different types of ammo.
