    Default Pheasant/chukar hunt

My dad and I have been talking about doing a pheasant hunts lately. Well he booked it about a month ago and we went today. We went with Bittner's Wild Wings and I have to say, they are a great outfit and we both had a blast. This was my first trip hunting any kind of upland bird, and the first for my dad in years. The dog handler was great and the dogs were well trained. We decided to mix it up with pheasants and some chukar. All in all we had a blast. Out of 12 birds that were put out we were able to bring 11 home. I will post up a picture or two when I get to the computer. I must say that those chukar are fast moving birds and if it weren't for the great dogs, we might have only gotten a bird or two. We are already talking about heading back up to try a chukar only hunt. The best part was getting back out in the field with my dad again.

If this site gets enough people I would not mind going to Giberson's Farm in Pemberton, NJ.

Although not many people want to enter NJ, for hunting you can :P

Here is a picture the guide was nice enough to take for us. Again, it was such a great time and can't wait to do it again.

Not trying to hi-jack your thread, but you said the chukars were fast moving birds. This really suprises me, because my experience has been the exact opposite so much so that i said would never again buy chukars to hunt with my dog.

Can you explain what you mean by fast? The birds i got were from Warriors Mark Wingshooting and there we pathetic they would fly extremely slow and the dog broke point and caught one. There pheasants on the other hand were really challenging and made for excellent hunting.

Now you have me wondering if maybe i just got a bad/tame batch of birds?

When the dog went on point, the birds didn't move until the dog handler kicked them out of the hole or out from under the brush. When they took off, they were quick and flew out about 6-8 feet off the ground at a good clip. The good thing was they didn't fly too far and we were able to get the dog back on them. We flushed a few birds 2-3 times. I'm not too experienced with wing shooting so for me, they seemed rather fast. Atleast for me they were a bigger challenge than the pheasants. I wouldn't hesitate to go back and try it again. Now this place does not stock the birds out the night before, but rather as your hunting. So maybe that had something to do with it.
