Default AR Pistol without buffer tube.

I am getting interested in an AR pistol, but most of the ones I see PAFOA members building do so with the buffer tube.

I have seen some that do not use the buffer tube and instead use a piston system to replace its function. But most of these are whole pistols not jsut the uppers.

Are there AR pistol uppers that use a piston and no buffer tube.

Also what are the legal requirements for an AR pistol. Overall length, barrel length, certain features, etc?

    Thanks in advance.

RRA's PDS pistola uses a piston system. I know exactly jack-shit about how well it runs and have only read internet banter about it. Call RRA and see if they will sell you just the upper. 1-866-980-7625. Do you have a pistol lower already? There may be some differences and may not fit on a "standard" AR lower. I'm sure you'll ask them when you call, right??

A lot of the ones without buffer tubes are .22LR.

Or sold as a complete unit as mentioned above.

Olympic Arms has/had a AR pistol like that, the OA-93. You might be able to score one of their uppers that had the recoil assemble in the top half.

Handguns don't have a barrel length requirement under federal law. They can have .0001" barrels or a barrel 6 miles long.

PA law requires a handgun with a barrel less than 15" to be recorded on transfer, and they also need a LTCF to be carried concealed, in a vehicle, or in Philly. Handguns with barrels over 15" are not "firearms" under PA law.
