Tactic: Fort up, call 911, use shotgun for SD
ABC News reported this morning that a teen mom who had recently lost her husband was the target of a home invasion. She forted up with her baby and a 12 Ga sxs and called 911 to report that she was being attacked. When the intruders came through the door, she shot and killed one, the other ran and turned himself in later. Here is the link to the story:

Most excellent advice from the dispatcher!
"I can't tell you that you can do that but you do what you have to do to protect your baby," the dispatcher told her. McKinley was on the phone with 911 for a total of 21 minutes.Rules are written in the stone,

I'm not sure it was her thinking of needing permission more along the lines of looking for advice as to what she should do. She's scared, she's lost her husband and she's alone with her baby. Probably never really thought about what she'd have to do to protect herself and her baby before.
I think the reassurance from the operator helped her make the decision.Rules are written in the stone,

good for her, she will be in my prayers with all her tough times lately.
Valorious:
I'm not only surpised they ran the story but they stated that the woman had been on the phone with 911 for 21 minutes, blows a hole in the theory that all you do is need to call the cops and everything is magically okay.

These kind of stories happen a lot more than the general public thinks. If the mainstream media would do the reporting, we could change a lot of peoples minds of what carrying a gun can do.
The only stories they usually report are "18 year old mom killed while 911 operator listens"

They are running a segment over and over on Headline News (the Nancy Grace channel) about "holding your ground" during home invasions. There was a lot of audio from a 14 year old who shot an invader while protecting himself and his little sister.
Here it is....with the audio

The young woman states that she would not have done it
if it were not for her baby, but what about herself? What
if there was no baby? This seems to be almost apologetic,
and can be construed that way. One never has to apologize
for defending oneself, or another, even if the defense is lethal.
