I went last week and had a great time! Just got a gun a few months ago and am still exploring things. Everyone there was welcoming, encouraging, and the competition was challenging.
I walked away placing in 2 of the 20 rounds and can't wait for this weekend.
If you're in State College and want to car pool let me know.
Best Saturday night in a long time!
    Thanks everyone!!!

Can I get a round down please? I take it your shooting the tiny NRA 50ft targets. Iron sights or optics? Power limit if optics? Prone, standing, kneeling, sitting or all of the above?
    Thanks
It's all fun and games, til someone shoots your bobber!

Targets are printed on roughly 2x2" squares. There's a mix of both iron sights and optics, no power limit that I've been told. All shot standing. Young children are allowed to rest an elbow in the bench. (I forget the age cut-off for that, it's on a sign at the club)

There's an interesting equipment mix at the matches. Everything thing from cheap plinkers and "squirrel guns" to high dollar competition rifles. Mostly bolt actions, but usually at least 1 10/22 as well.....

Are single shot rifles okay? Is the course of fire slow enough to allow them?

I'll do my best with the weather.

Single shot rifles are fine, and there are generally several of them in use each week. There isn't a "time crunch" for this.

I'm planning on being there tomorrow night, as long as nothing catastrophic happens.

Should I bring my spotting scope?

It wouldn't hurt to make sure you're sighted in during the practice time. Once the match starts, there probably won't be time/room for it. All match targets are available for review after each round is scored. Several people do bring binoculars to check targets "as they're shot". I'm in Maryland right now, so I probably won't be home in time to come up tonight, but the rest of the staff/regulars will be there to welcome and assist anyone new. Just let them know you're new when you sign in, and someone will be able to answer any questions you may have. I'd recommend getting there close to 6pm, usually not so many people there when the doors initially open.

Also, not sure what the weather is like right now, (was snowing when I left Mifflin County this morning) but in my several years with the club, we've never canceled for weather, so if you can safely get there, the match will be going on.
