How often do you unload/reload your ccw?
Got new Speer Gold Dots yesterday and I wanted to make sure they would feed as this is my carry weapon. So i loaded up mags and cycled them through by manually pulling the slide back.
It was a bit suprising to see, but just after a few, 4 or 5, chamberings bullets were begining to be set back into the casing and the hollow point cavity was closing! Whats up with that? How often do you guys clear out then reload your carry pistols? If you would do it every night a bullet would only last a few chamberings... I do it every week when i clean/lube the gun.
I know the Critical Defence from Hornady has a "crimped" bullet/casing thats designed to keep it from "set back". There on my list to get next.

What gun / caliber was this?
I have cycled Gold Dots multiple times through my Glocks 19 and 26 with no setback.

Re: How often do you unload/reload your ccw?
Now I have always carried a revolver until recently so this was not an issue.
But I have seen several threads on this same question.
Each time the response to this was the spring in the mag is only wearing when it is in use - unloading and loading.
They said there is no spring wear when the mag is unloaded and stays that way or when it is loaded and stays that way.
It is only the constant use of the spring that wears it out.
Also, many have said the constant chambering, but not firing of a cartridge is not good for the cartridge.
What they recommended was make sure you have fired enough out of the gun so it is broke in, keep it clean for carry, and then keep your mag(s) full and ready for carry.
Again, I am new to the semi auto carry gang and I am relaying what I have read on the forum here for the last several months.
Hope that helps ...
God bless!!

Re: How often do you unload/reload your ccw?
I've heard several anecdotal reports of setback with 1911s. It might be something to do with the feed ramp or the bullet shape in the 1911 or .45 autos in general.

I've had no problems with 9mm Gold Dots, but I tend not to chamber the rounds more than 2-3 times, just to be on the safe side.

This may not be the case with your taurus but a buddy of mine has a taurus 1911 and it has a hell of a time feeding HPs. His taurus has an extremely crappy looking feed ramp. im actually kind of surprised it feeds anything. The ramp is an extreme angle. My kimber will shoot/feed HPs all day without a hickup.

If I unload my carry guns I rotate the ammo. I don't like to chamber a round more than twice. I have no facts our reattach to back up why I do it though.
