Off Topic - Looking for a place to live
Hello all, my roommate and I are looking to get out of noisy apartments in Oakland. We are looking to get a house somewhere in the area such that we can still drive to school in Oakland. Trouble is we don't know the neighborhoods and lack the local knowledge of where a good place to live would be.
Any suggestions on neighborhoods to look for or watch out for? Living close to 376 would be a plus. Maybe out by Monroeville?
My landlord came in our appartment today while I was cleaning an AP-74. One of the girls she was showing the appartment to freaked out a little at the "M16" It was funny

Have you looked anywhere closer than Monroeville? I've heard some goods things about Greenfield, if you're looking for something more affordable than Squirrel Hill but still not too far away.

CMU student, eh?
Must not be CIT, CS, or MCS if this is how you started your search... jk...
Sq. Hill is a great option. I lived there while finnishing up at CMU. The drive down Beacon and through the park to school was awesome & soothing. Try to find a place off of Murray though, parking a block away gets old. I lived in Shadyside before that. It was naturally much more fun, but crazier & pricey. If you have the M3 to get the 10s at ShadyGrove, then move there. But Shadyside was def the most fun I've had yet.
PM me if you want straight up advice. I know a few Shadyside landlords that you'll want nothing to do with. Especially if your trying to pass 21-259 or 06-anything...

Regent Square and/or Edgewood is a great area. I first looked into living here as a student going to CMU and have since bought a home here as a permanent resident.
I don't think you can go wrong with this area. Crime does not seem to be a problem. It is close to downtown and the parkway. There is a nice mix of full time residents vs. renters. It is very close to CMU and Pitt and he traffic is not bad to oakland (I drive their everyday).
That's my 2 cents. Check out Craigslist for possible places to rent. It seems to be a pretty decent place to find apartments.
