    Default Primer blowouts?

Id assume only over charge, but what can cause primer blowouts?

My dad had a new 7mm 08 blow out the primer on a brand new box of corelokts. He swears it has to be gun, I say ammo but we have shot hundreds of the same ammo in 7mm and 270.

Could also be that the primer pocket or the flash hole is to large causing excessive pressure to reenter the primer causing blowout.

You are right - generally a sign of being way over pressure, although it more commonly manifests as a flattened or pierced primer.

Loose primer pockets would do it, but in new factory ammo, that is a remote possibility.

I would suppose that excessive headspace could have this result, but, again, the more common manifestation for this is case separation.

If it's a new gun I'd contact the manufacturer and see what they have to say. At the very least have the headspace checked.

If he fired other shells from the same box take a good look at the primers and see what they're like. I'd also take a gander at the firing pin to rule it out of the equation.
It ain't what they call you, it's what you answer to.

My dad had some 357s blow out the primers. Nothing big, just a hole in the center of the primer. I think they were Rems or Feds. Either way one kept blowing out and the other he had no problems with. The factory said it was his gun, but sent him a voucher to replace the ammo anyway. I fired some out of my gun and had one bad one. He just stopped using the troublesome ammo and hasn't had an issue since. We thought maybe the primer was made using thinner metal than normal or possibly brittle metal.

See we use the same ammo for the other 7mm 08, and same in both 270s and even in 30 06(when it comes out, sub 3lb triggers means range only) and have never had an issue. Apparently he is haveing issues on the extractor since it.

Is this ammo a different lot than the 7mm-08 that you've shot in the past? All factories can turn out a batch of ammo with a problem. Forget what the 270 and 30-06 are doing, they are not the same as your problem ammo.

I'd quit shooting the suspect ammo and contact Remington about it. See what they have to say.

Also I would try another brand of ammo see what happens.

I spoke to my dad yesterday. He said the Remington ammo was the issue for him as well.

Im trying to get the case from him, but rarely see my dad.

All the 7mm 08 we have ever shot was the same ammo and have never had a problem.

Just to be clear. The 7mm-08 shells that you now have a problem with, are from same box of shells that you have shot in the past with no problems?

You did not buy new boxes of 7mm-08 ammo?

I know I sound like I'm being picky but the way your post reads to me, I can't tell if 'same ammo' means you bought a large supply in the past and are still shooting it, or if 'same ammo' means from the same manufacturer each time you bought a box or two.
