At any rate, with an OIM model with a DAO trigger, you can definitely just leave the safety off.

If you dislike the mag safety there is a tutorial to remove it on the FN forums.

I am just a messenger spreading the word of the 5.7x28mm gospel my friend.

Seriously though, once you get past the "tiny bullet syndrome", and rationally analyze what the FsN and it's 5.7x28mm actually offer in the way of benefits, such as:

Recoil akin to 9mm plinking ammo, even with full power Elite +P rounds.
Super flat trajectory and greatly enhanced practical range
    20 or 30rd capacity
Lightweight compact ammo, 30% less weight and volume than 9mm or 5.56mm
Fully loaded with 21rds, the FsN weighs the same as an empty Glock 17.
    Short, light single action trigger
    Fully ambidextrous
Ability to penetrate any current generation soft body armor
Reduced over penetration vs legacy pistol calibers
Numerous spitzer bullet options that offer 12"+ penetration and various terminal effects (frag, controlled expansion, tumbling)

    It's quite a package

Oh what I wouldn't do for a Glock in 5.7!

    Sarah Brady just soiled herself.
The last thing I want to do is hurt you... but believe me, it's on the damned list.

Out of curiosity, with velocities as high as they are, what is the barrel life of a FsN compared to a 9mm Parabellum?

Not really sure, i've never heard of anyone shooting out their 5.7mm barrel. I do know from conversations with Jay at Elite that they are testing their new 8" barrels to 20,000rds before they release them for sale on the market.

With an 8" barrel, the FsN pistol will even further bridge the gap between pistol and rifle. Elite ammo S4M should hit between 2800-2900fps with an 8" tube.

An 8" bull barrel would be cool for a pistol-rifle hybrid, like Ruger's .22 Charger, methinks. That would make for an awesome, portable Varminter...

But, in a target/defense handgun, I don't really see myself owning anything longer than a 1911. Not a criticism of Elite Ammo's concept, just a personal preference.

Thanks for the info on barrel wear, btw.

Imagine if you will an 8" FsN with red dot and a bright light for your primary weapon, and a standard length FsN with night sights/laser for your sidearm.

Mags are of course completely interchangeable between the two.
