Re: 1911 45acp
Or you could always buy one of those goofy drums that sticks out of the bottom of your 1911. They hold 40+ rounds and they must weigh a ton. I've never felt the need to have an entire box of ammo in my gun at one time.

Re: 1911 45acp
"It is an antiquated design."
Hmmmm.
Please expand on that a bit. What elements of the 1911 design are antiquated?

Re: 1911 45acp
As others pointed out. There are a plethora of double stack 1911 variants, Para, Springfield, RIA they all have one in their catalog.

Re: 1911 45acp
As others have mentioned, Para makes a double stack and even a double stack compact 1911.(Gasp!) I happen to own one of these and can very easily say the thing has been ultra reliable for many years.
Many people claim that the double stacks have issues and others claim the compact 1911 design has problems, but I can easily say that I've encountered none of these issues. Its feeds HP ammo just as reliably as ball ammo.
My Para compact is almost as accurate as my 70 series Colt 1911 - But some of that comes with training. If you limp wrist any of them, they simply arent going to operate effectivelyIf you're not outraged & disgusted, you are simply not paying atttention

Re: 1911 45acp
Many of the 1911 owners are purists. I like the 1911, and have both flavors (single stack and wide body). Admittedly, the wide bodies are .38 super and .40 as they are game guns.
