Don't forget the Taurus PT1911. Lots of goodies that cost extra on other makes.

Get ready for a million different opinions......

What are you looking at doing? Competitive shooting? Reliability? Durability? Looks cool?

Colt 70>all. Just don't touch one damn thing on it, it's perfect how it is from the factory, even 70 years ago.

A current production Colt Series 70. Then send it to one of only about a dozen or so gunsmiths who REALLY know the 1911 geometry and have them perform a reliability package and add whatever bells and whistles suit your fancy.

    I like colts

although the kimber Grand Raptor makes my pants tight when i look at it same with some of the ed brown guns

if price is a problem there is always Rock Island 1911s

ive heard alot of gunsmiths are using rock islands to do there custom builds on pretty much they shitcan all the factory parts and replace them with high end parts

Para's basic single stack SA 1911.

    Accurate
    Dependable
true to original 1911 demention(more so then other manufacture I'm told)
    and reasonably priced.

I'm truely happy that I went with my para PX745S instead of Kimber Stainless II.

SA's Loaded 1911 are pretty good too.
And SA's costomer service is top natch.

Important thing is to go to store with open mind.
Don't just get Kimber, because your buddy told you its the best.
    Try few different one.
    Handle one
    Check the finish quality
And if possible, find someone who have them and try one out at range.

Get what YOU want to get. Not what rest of us want you to get.

Remington-Rand or Ithaca, vintage 1943. Both go bang absolutely every time for me.

    Here are a couple enlargeables:

Gloria: "65 percent of the people murdered in the last 10 years were killed by hand guns"
Archie Bunker: "would it make you feel better, little girl, if they was pushed outta windows?"
