    Default .308 bullets

Was reading sierra web site noted that (155) .308 bullets that were noted as "Palma" were of much higher ballistic coefficient than others of relative same size. Will be reloading for .308 win Rem 700 5R 11 twist.starting with these because gun seemed to like 150 gr bullets better than 180. What makes Palma bullet different?

Palma bullets are specially designed to have a high BC for weight. These are a bit longer (and subsequently more pointy, I apologize for the technical language). Seriously, looking at the Palma and a typical 155 gr Rem Coreloks, for example; the Sierra is what it looks like, long and aerodynamic. These are pretty good bullets, even usable in a .308 to 1,000 yds. They are also a bit expensive, and in my experience not as forgiving, in load development, as the 168 or 175 MKs.

So you think i would be better off trying several 168gr bullets to find the one my gun likes best?

The Palma matches mandate .308s and 155 bullets. Palma is a long range team match that goes out to 1000 yards. Bullets of other weight are not permitted.

The best bullet we found for 600 meters was the 155 Palma in front of 748. This is the one that I used to make my lifetime brag shot. 600 Meters off hand on a 12" plate. Went 1 for 5 that day, my all time best.

Thanks for the opportunity to slip that in.

I had read a barrel should be broken in,so I used the method described on the midway video website.I seemed to get the progression that was spoken of in the video. It would get easier to get the barrel clean between shots, and it seemed to work. During this process Iused 2 boxes of 150gr winchester ammo and 1/2 a box of 180 gr. the 150gr ammo shot noticeably better groups. i made the assumption that the gun liked lighter bullets.

I wouldn't say there are allot of different ways to break in a barrel, but there are a few. One method is to shoot 1-1-1(cleaning between each shot), then 3-3-3(cleaning between each 3), then 5-5-5. Bartlein has another method (which I followed for my barrel, being that it's made by Bartlein). It has worked for me thus far and I like it. http://bartleinbarrels.com/BreakInCleaning.htm

Are you planning on hand loading?
